The Problem With Standard Advice

“BE CAREFUL” ISN'T A PLAN.

You've already given her the advice: Be careful. Text me when you get there. Stay with your friends. Trust your gut.

She probably listened. The problem is that none of those things tells her what to look for, what to say, or what to actually do when something starts going wrong.

Most parents know this. They just don't have anything better to say, so they say it louder. Underneath that is the part nobody likes to admit: you don't really have a plan. You have a worry and a phone number.

That's a fixable problem. And we're going to spend two hours working on it.

Who This Is For

fresh·man | ˈfresh-mən | noun

1. A student in the first year of high school or college.

2. A beginner, a newcomer — someone starting something new.

She doesn't have to be leaving for college. High school. College. Her first apartment. A new job. Nights out. Traveling alone. Moving somewhere new. Each comes with more independence and more decisions she has to make for herself.

This class is for young women ages 15 and older and the parents, grandparents, family members, and friends who want them better prepared.

Take it together if you can. Take it alone and teach it if you can't.

What Changes in Two Hours

SPECIFIC THINGS YOU CAN RECOGNIZE, DECIDE, AND DO.

You won't leave with more things to worry about. You'll leave with practical skills and better decisions.

1

See Trouble Earlier

Recognize behavioral cues so “something doesn't feel right” becomes something you can identify and act on.

2

Become a Harder Target

Understand how criminal predators select people and what can make someone look like a less attractive choice.

3

Recognize Social Risk

Learn to recognize isolation, boundary testing, social pressure, and the person you already know who keeps pushing.

4

Say No and Mean It

Learn what assertiveness actually looks and sounds like when being nice is no longer working.

5

Have a Default Response

Move, create distance, improve your position, and know what you're going to do before stress decides for you.

6

Put a Defensive Tool to Work

Learn how to select, carry, rapidly access, and actually use one of the simplest everyday defensive tools available: a tactical flashlight.

Two Hours. Two Parts.

FROM RECOGNITION TO ACTION.

Hour One · First 60 Minutes

SEE IT BEFORE YOU HAVE TO FIGHT IT

This is a guided seminar and incident review. We'll watch real-world incidents involving young women, slow them down, and discuss what was happening before the attack.

What warning signs were there? Where did the options begin disappearing? Where was the last easy opportunity to change the outcome?

That's how we'll teach threat recognition, target selection, avoidance, social pressure, boundaries, assertiveness, and the basic defensive response.

The goal isn't constant vigilance. It's recognizing trouble early enough that you still have good options.

Hour Two · Second 60 Minutes

PUT IT IN YOUR HANDS

Everyday Equalizer: Tactical Flashlight 101

Then we get out of the chairs. The second hour is hands-on. You'll practice carrying, accessing, moving with, and defensively striking with a tactical flashlight.

We'll combine it with assertiveness, positioning, movement, and the basic defensive response — then put the skills on the clock.

No previous self-defense experience is needed. These are simple, practical defensive skills designed for ordinary people, not martial artists.

Selection · Carry · Rapid Access · Movement · Positioning · Defensive Use · Timed Practice

Everyday Equalizer

A TOOL THAT FITS REAL LIFE.

A tactical flashlight doesn't require a tactical lifestyle. It's useful every day, goes almost everywhere, and gives you options before a situation ever becomes physical.

Hour Two isn't a demonstration at the end of a lecture. It's an hour of action designed to turn what you just learned into something you can actually do.

WHAT TO BRING

Your Everyday Bag

Purse, backpack, fanny pack, sling bag — whatever you normally carry. We want to train the way you actually live.

A Tactical Flashlight, If You Have One

Bring your tactical flashlight if you already have one. Ideally, it should be small enough that you'll actually carry it, have a tail activation switch, and be long enough to extend slightly past your hand when gripped.

Don't have one? That's fine. We'll have examples available to try, and appropriate tactical flashlights are available for purchase at 88 Tactical.

Comfortable Clothes & Shoes

You'll be moving and practicing during Hour Two. All attendees complete the standard 88 Tactical registration and waiver process at check-in.
